Art Challenge 1

This art challenge was put off over and over again as I was scared to actually draw a self portrait. Finally I forced myself to 'just do it', and surprisingly I actually enjoyed it. I can't say I found any hidden talent but did find a sense of satisfaction as I drew. Below is my first ever self portrait!

I then searched the internet for apps to colour my drawing. I downloaded one on my iphone called Malevich which helped me to add texture and a bit of colour. Then came the fun part. I searched for pop art style apps and discovered PopArtLite for my iphone. Manipulating colour and transparency was exciting and I was able to pick colours that I love and make me feel at peace with.

My next adventure was to create my '6 word story' (check out this site to find out what a  6 word story is). I decided to focus it on my need for a bit of colour, my need for a bit of art adventure and my need for art to work its way into my way of thinking.

Lacklustre Life,
Seeking Adventure,
Found Art.

I then created my book cover using my blog name, my pop art picture and my 6 word story. I created this using www.canva.com. I was really pleased with my final product and am excited to share it with the world. This project has definitely sparked my interest in the 'Art' part of 'The Arts' and I hope to keep that spark going.

A bit scary

As a primary and high school aged student I enjoyed the arts immensely.  I participated in dance, music and drama throughout my 12 years of schooling, loving every minute of it. This allowed me to be confident and have a positive outlook on other aspects of my school life. It gave me  an avenue to direct my energies, both positive and negative and gave me a way of letting my feelings out.

Because of my participation as a student in the arts I feel that I will be able to draw on what helped me in order to ignite a passion for it in my own students.  My enthusiasm now as an adult of the arts will feed my love for teaching it. The creativity that is brings into someones life and the way they are able to think of things in different ways because of their exposure to art in any form builds citizens with passion and drive and acceptance of all walks of life. My need for music and dance and colour will drive my teaching of this subject.

Although, as I start this blog I can't help but be a bit scared 😁. I love the arts...... dance, drama and music but the other aspects of 'art' scare me!! Putting pen to paper to create a beautiful (or even ugly) piece that can be called art is not in my repertoire!! My stick figures don't even look good!!

This subject, I am sure, will push me to reach down and pull out my creative side and hopefully, fingers crossed, it will ignite in me a passion for the 'visual' side of 'the arts'.

Wish me luck!
